I made a slideshow I want to convert to a video file so I can put it on youtube, I downloaded the program... but I can't even open it up.
It gives me an error message that says it can't contact Slideroll.com and that the firewall could be blocking access. So I went into my firewall and made it an exception. This should have fixed the problem, but I am still getting error message and am unable to open the program to convert slideshow.
Please help! Thanks.

Hmm.. can you try turning off your firewall temporarily to see if that's the problem? Do you have any other software that may be blocking it, like antivirus software?

Won't let you? You need to let it know who's boss! :)
Perhaps you need to have administrator access. Are you running Windows 7? If you have Windows 7, I think you can try to right-click on the icon and choose "Run as Administrator" and maybe it will work then.
It sounds like you're running on a guest account with some sort of restrictions.

Dear Geoff - I just purchased a Pro subscription & when I used the online Slideroll.com slideshow creator application, it came out GREAT!!
The only problem that I ran into, was that when I went to add an MP3 file from my computer, I found out that I could not do that unless I used the Video Creator to do that.
I find it frustrating, especially when someone pays for a Pro subscription, that you are limited to the pre-loaded selection of music tracks and are unable to upload your own MP3 tracks. I would think that it would be really rather simple to include this feature into the existing framework since you are already albe to upload (if you are a Pro Member) up to 5000 photos.
In any way, when I went into the Video Creator application, I was able to add the MP3 track to the slideshow but when I went to export it, It created a .mpg file but my QuickTime player wouldn't open the file and neither would the VLC Player that it said was necessary to play videos that have MP3 tracks added to them.
I've since tried to convert the file using any number of Video file converters but none of them so far have worked, All of them say that there was some sort of error w/ the original file or that the file was somehow corrupt and thus couldn't be read.
I don't know if there is a way for me to post that video file to this forum but if there is then I will gladly send it to you so you can see if you can figure out what the problem is with it. I REALLY need to get this problem figured out because I need to get this slideshow / video posted on our non-profit's website ASAP!!
I GREATLY APPRECIATE & WELCOME ANY INPUT FROM ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT THEY CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!
Sincerely,

Kathryn,
You're right that it would be easy to add the MP3 feature to the slideshow. The problem is, this feature would be used in a way that is illegal, and I would be flooded with take-down notices and threats of lawsuits.
It's not legal to upload copyrighted music to the internet unless you are the copyright holder. If I added the ability, most people would use it to add their favorite music to their slideshow, and then I'd have to take it down. And, there's also a possibility that the user who uploaded the music could face a lawsuit from the copyright holder or RIAA.
I'm sorry that your video is not working... it's possible the MP3 file was not compatible with the video encoder. Are you sure that it is an MP3 file you added?
I'd recommend sticking with the standard Flash slideshow and adding your MP3 music as a soundtrack.mp3 file in the same directory as your slideshow. Instructions are located in the Help section here:
https://slideroll.com/help.php#music
If you copy your mp3, rename it soundtrack.mp3, and upload it to the same location as your slideshow, you should be good to go.
Let me know if you still have troubles!
-Geoff
