Apparently I can't simply load the slideshow straight from my HD to the vid creator, and I can't get the slideshow to upload (what is the ftp address thing?). If there's a way to do the former that would be great...but if not, what is the ftp address thing?

Not sure what you mean by FTP Address thing. The only place FTP is used is in Gallery AV.
If you're using Slideroll Gallery AV, you can't use that to make videos. Use the online slideshow creator - that creates slideshows with pans and zooms that are more appropriate for video.
Once you create the slideshow online, simply load the Video Creator, log in on the first screen, and your slideshows will appear in a list. Choose one to turn into a video.
