Hi Geoff,
I have tried several times to make a video to a soundtrack, and it won't "code" toward the end - I get an error message saying it is taking too long. My music is 1.72 MB, and I have used similar sized files before.

Do you hear the music play when you add it?
I imagine your music is not readable by the video encoder and it is causing the video encoding process to fail. It may not be a compatible format. You could try re-encoding your music file as MP3 with iTunes and see if that helps.
