I've tried to upload my video twice, and it took an hour each time. However, the encoding at the end won't work. I need this done tonight! Please help

When you say it didn't work, what exactly happened?  Did you get any errors?

Are you on Windows or Mac? What operating system are you running?

An error message came up saying the encoding was taking too long. I kept clicking okay but it would just pop back up.

I'm using Windows Vista

Did you happen to see any messages at the bottom of the interface like "Encoding 12345 bytes..." or anything like that?

Could you try creating a really short slideshow (like 1 slide) and see if the video creator works for that?

I've tested on Windows Vista and had success, so it may be something particular to your system.  If you can encode a short slideshow we know it's an issue with the length of the slideshow.  If the short one doesn't even work, then there's something wrong with the application itself (at least on Vista)

Sorry, but I don't think we'll be able to get it working tonight!!

One more question: Did you add music to your video?

Yes, I saw the message, and I had tried a short one, which worked. I figured it might have something to do with the video size, so I lessened the aspect ratio and compressed the mp3 file, but it still didn't work.

Yeah, I did get it working.

If I can get a DVD in the next two hours, it will be fine D:

So you did get it working?  Sorry, I'm a little confused by your last message.  Looks like you tried, it didn't work, but then you finally did get it working.

I'm wondering if it was an issue with the MP3 file causing the encoder to fail.  Were you able to hear the music play in the application when you added it?

Ah, sorry I meant that a smaller video with only a few slides worked, even with the mp3.

It's a custom mp3 so I couldn't add it in the application

I've attempted to create your video on a Windows Vista computer.  I did get the same message, although it did eventually complete the encoding process.

I think that message is appearing because the slideshow you are making is so very long.

If you are not able to get this to work, and you aren't using the other features of Slideroll, let me know if you wish to receive a refund.

I do see that your slideshow is getting quite a fair number of views so I assume you are having success sharing the web version of the slideshow.

So if I keep clicking okay, will it eventually finish?

I can't guarantee it, but I think so.  You should see a message in the bottom left corner of the program that reads "Encoding 11080822 bytes..." or something like that.  If it says that, it means it's working.

I think it's so large that it's taking longer than the program expects.  I added that warning message to prevent people from waiting for hours for it to finish.  It shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes.

Is there a way to override the warning? Or is there a way you could compile it and the mp3 and send it to me please?

Feel free to send the mp3 to [email protected] and I'll give it a try.  It'll help me to test as well!

I think I got it working. Late last night I used the program again. When it got to the encoding screen, I kept clicking okay for about 10 to 12 minutes. Decided I should sleep. Woke up this morning, clicked okay one more time, movie's done. Thanks for your help! I'm gonna try again with better quality music and photos this time.

Great news!  Save that video!

I think you've pushed the limits and I'm glad it finally worked.  Hopefully I'll be able to make a more robust product in the future using your feedback.

Thanks!

When you add the music to your video, do you hear the song playing when it asks you if you want to match the length of the song, before you start to encode?  If you don't hear it start to play, then the mp3 may be incompatible with the Video Maker.  You may need to convert it to mp3 with iTunes.

Yes!  In the slideshow creator:

1. Add a shot to the timeline.
2. Select the shot in the timeline.
3. Click the blue "chain-link" button.
4. Enter the full link, starting with "http://"

Publish, embed and it should work!
